CMMB’s Medical Volunteer
Program (MVP) places licensed healthcare
professionals at faith-based healthcare
facilities in resource-poor countries. Doctors,
nurses and other healthcare professionals
devote themselves to helping those most
in need for periods ranging from a few months
to a few years. Healthcare professionals
in a wide range of disciplines participate,
with an emphasis on primary healthcare.
In 2007, CMMB placed 374 medical volunteers
at locations in 29 countries in Africa,
Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. CMMB-supported
physicians and nurses worked in HIV and
AIDS treatment programs in Africa, in health
education in Thailand, and in primary healthcare
programs in rural settings in Latin America.
