September 2007
For the month of September, CMMB made 42 shipments with a total value of $10,839,793.69. Our cumulative FY 2007 totals through September are 535 shipments and a total value of $185,721,100.67.
Notable shipments for September 2007:
HAITI: CMMB works with many parishes in the United States that are part of parish twinning programs. The Parish Twinning Program of the Americas is a non-profit organization focused on creating lasting sister parish relationships between parishes in the U.S. or Canada and parishes in the country of Haiti and elsewhere. CMMB fulfilled a request last month from Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Indiana for medicines for their twin parish in Haiti, St. Antoine de Padoue. The shipment included antibiotics, analgesics, and anti-infectives. Since its incorporation into the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas in 2003, Our Lady of Mount Carmel has sent a mission team of 8-12 parishioners every 6 months to visit their twin parish in Petite Riviere de Nippes.
PHILIPPINES: Last month, CMMB provided Universal Heart International Relief Services with one carton of Zocor to be included with a shipment to their program in the Philippines, Missionaries of the Poor Sisters (MOPS). MOPS is heavily relied upon for medicines by countless doctors and clinicians in the Naga City and Manila areas. The donation was distributed through MOPS to five hospitals. These hospitals together serve tens of thousands of the poorest of the people.
LEBANON: The First Lady of Lebanon hand-carried one carton of Singulair destined for the Children’s Asthma Center in Lebanon from her hotel in New York back with her to Lebanon last month. The First Lady had been in New York with her husband for meetings at the United Nations. CMMB has shown a continued commitment to the cause of healthcare in Lebanon, donating $3.3 million to Lebanon for FY 2007. Well aware of this long-standing relationship, the First Lady was pleased to meet with Jack Galbraith, CMMB’s President and CEO, and Barbara Wright, Director of Communications for CMMB, at her hotel before returning to Lebanon.
RWANDA: This past month, CMMB put together a shipment of orthopedic supplies for a “listening team” from Saddleback Church in California to hand carry to Kibuye District Hospital in Rwanda. The health facility serves approximately 213,000 adults and 38,000 children. Saddleback Church sends “listening teams” to Rwanda in an effort to help the country become a “purpose driven” nation. Purpose Driven Life is the title of a book written by Rick Warren, who is the pastor at Saddleback Church. When the leader of Rwanda, President Kigami, read Warren’s book, he wrote to Warren and later visited Saddleback Church in California declaring, “We want our country to become a “purpose driven” nation.”
The country recently launched a national P.E.A.C.E. plan, which calls upon local congregations to assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the illiterate, among other objectives.
