For the month of June CMMB made 47 shipments with a total value of $8,909,694.
For the month of July, CMMB made 44 shipments with a total value of $56,744,378.
Notable shipments for June-July 2007:
PHILIPPINES: Home Reach Foundation (HRF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing medical care assistance, particularly to poor children in the Philippines. Since the start, HRF focused on the province of Bohol. Their mission is to assist in the health-education-social-&-economic development of Filipino communities (primarily in rural Philippines). Home Reach has been mobilizing support for relief efforts following a devastating tornado that hit Sandingan, Loon, Bohol on June 16th. Thirteen houses were destroyed as a result of the natural disaster, affecting 47 families and 235 persons.
In addition to rice, nails, and family necessities, there is a great need for medicines. CMMB initiated its first response to this crisis with an emergency shipment of medicines and medical supplies to the region through HRF. Included in the shipment were medicines used to treat chronic bronchitis.
MEXICO: Atlanta Korean Martyrs Catholic Church has been sponsoring mission trips to South America every summer for the past five years. The church has a partnership with the Korean Nuns Association, which has assigned nine sisters to the Casa de las Hermanas in Mexico City to work with the people of six districts in order to strengthen their Catholic faith. This past June, a group of missionaries affiliated with the Atlanta Korean Martyrs Catholic Church traveled to Ciudad del Maiz in Mexico, armed with CMMB medicines and assorted medical supplies. These medicines included assorted Tylenol and Motrin products, Imodium, Pepcid, Aspirin, assorted vitamins and supplements, cough suppressant, children’s fever/pain syrup, and medicines to treat respiratory infections, hypertension, and cholesterol levels. On this, their fifth mission trip, the group of fifteen lay missionaries saw 200 patients in the small town of Ciudad del Maiz, which is a town located 700 kilometers north of Mexico City—a town that is trying to rebuild from past wars between Spain and guerillas. Next year, the group hopes to return to Mexico because, according to Dr. Jhee, the leader of the recent mission trip, “I feel strongly that the peoples in developing countries still need more medical attention and deserve better health care.”
CAMEROON: This past month CMMB put together a shipment of medicines at the request of God Saves Corporation USA for Cameroon. This latest shipment contained primary health care drugs such as Spiriva, which is used to treat chronic bronchitis. God Saves is a non-governmental organization and non-profit organization that was started in 2001 by a group of healthcare professionals to provide basic healthcare, health education, life-saving medicines, and a safe environment for mothers and children in sub-Saharan Africa. The group provides volunteer physicians weekly to areas where no medical doctor is present to assist with complicated medical conditions. In addition, the group provides medicines to hospitals, health centers, and individual patients at no cost. The recipients of the medicines are those who are in poor and deprived areas located far from health centers and hospitals.
ARMENIA: CMMB and United Armenian Fund (UAF) have been partnering for ten years to secure badly needed medicines for the poor of Armenia. UAF is a private voluntary organization that provides short-term humanitarian and long-term rehabilitation aid to Armenia. The United Armenian Fund is based in California and was formed from the seven major Armenian charities and churches in America. Since its foundation in 1989, UAF has sent $345 million of humanitarian assistance to Armenia on board 120 airlifts and 866 sea containers. Most recently, among other medications, CMMB donated medicines to treat chronic bronchitis.
